About the Challenge

The Youth Trainer Challenge, established in 2021, is a unique Virginia-based equestrian program designed to empower young equestrians by providing hands-on experience in horse rehabilitation and retraining. This program pairs a dedicated Virginia youth with a professional equestrian trainer and a rescue horse that is in need of rehabilitation and retraining to prepare it for a new home.

Participants in the Youth Trainer Challenge gain invaluable skills in horse care, rehabilitation, and training, all while developing a deeper understanding of the equine rescue process. Beyond the technical skills, the program fosters a spirit of philanthropy, as each youth participant sets a fundraising goal to benefit the equine rescue organization that provides the horse. This element of the program instills a sense of responsibility and community service in the participants, teaching them the importance of giving back and supporting the welfare of animals in need.

The Youth Trainer Challenge not only equips young equestrians with practical skills and knowledge but also nurtures their growth as compassionate, responsible, and engaged members of the equestrian community.
